1. The first and most important decision. Which VPN protocol should you use? TUVPN currently offers four VPN protocols: OpenVPN, SSH2 Tunnels, L2TP/IPSec and PPTP. Which one you choose will depend on a number of factors like the device on which you intend to use your VPN, the country you are in, your ISP (some block PPTP), and the level of security you expect. To make it easier for you we have summarized it all in this faq entry.
2. After deciding on which protocol to use, you will have to configure your system to use it. In our Tutorials Section you will find the very best VPN tutorials you will find on the Internet for different Operating Systems and devices (Win7, Win Vista, Win XP, Ubuntu, Mac, IPhone, Android, DD-WRT router etc). Read the one for your system and configure your VPN for the desired protocol with ease.
3. With your TUVPN account you get unlimited traffic and access to all the servers on TUVPN's network. So your next choice will be deciding on which VPN server to connect. Speed wise, you can use our Speed Test Tool to easily check which is the faster vpn server accessible to you. But not only speed is important. Choosing the appropriate server depends also on the use you want to make of it (i.e. if you want to access content specific for a certain country you will have to access a server in that country).
4. Finally you will have to decide if any of the additional features of your TUVPN account are useful for you, or at least know that they exist in case you can use them in the future! A quick walk-through them:
With this we have covered all you need to know to start using the TUVPN Service at its full capacity. If you are not yet satisfied and would like to know even more about TUVPN and VPNs in general, don't worry, we have more:
A VPN or Virtual Private Network is defined as:
"A Safe Communication Method Between Two Points Through A Public Network"
Security of your communication is ensured via encryption. Encryption algorithms are applied to the communication, making sure that nobody on the public network (Internet) can access the contents of your communication between two points. In effect it creates a private 'tunnel' between two points.
VPNs have many advantages and uses including:
VPNs provide a solution to the growing concern the general public has about security, privacy and anonymity on the Internet.
TUVPN puts at your disposal one or more of our global network of servers to allow you to connect to the internet through our VPN client. ALL traffic between your computer and our VPN server that you are connecting to is encrypted and NOBODY can see or identify the content of that traffic.
Your anonymity is provided via the concealment of your IP (Internet Protocol address), which is that unique signature/number that identifies you and your location.
By connecting to our service, ALL Internet traffic you generate (browsing, file sharing, email, instant messaging, VOIP etc...) is forwarded fully ENCRYPTED to the TUVPN server where you have chosen to connect. Your Internet access is processed from there.
For Example: If you choose to connect to our servers in London, the end result is as if you were physically in London with your laptop and you surf, email, Skype etc from the UK.
The traffic you generate BETWEEN London and your home (or physical location of your PC) is protected by encryption and it is IMPOSSIBLE to reveal its contents.
TUVPN offers both Shared IP and Dedicated IP VPN service solutions. The only difference between these two service solutions is that a Shared IP service gives you a Public IP that is shared with many users, while a Dedicated IP service gets you a Public IP that is uniquely assigned to you. Learn more about the two here.
Each option has its strong points depending on your specific needs. You can also read more on this topic in our blog post about shared and dedicated IPs.
TUVPN maintains a global network of VPN servers.
As a TUVPN customer, you decide from which VPN server you wish to securely access the Internet.
We currently offer VPN servers in 9 countries (USA, Canada, Spain, UK, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Sweden).
