Installation on Linux/*NIX based Systems

If you have Debian based system you can use the following command.

$  sudo apt-get install openvpn

If you are on RPM Based system (mainly Redhat/Fedore Core) use the follwoing command. you must have Subscribed to DAG repositary.

Note: If not Subscribed to DAG Repository before. Please Subscribe from its Website.

# yum update
# updatedb
# yum install openvpn

you must have root privileges to do above mentioned process.


if you have neither of above mentioned OSes. than you can always use Source to compile.

Note: use wget to download the latest Stable Release.

unzip or untar the source go inside the source folder.

# tar -xvzf source_file_name.tar
# cd PATH-TO-EXTRACTED-FILE-FOLDER

# ./configure

# make

# install



Now for all above:

Uupload the zipped file we gave to you through a link in the email into /etc/openvpn/ you can use sftp or samba or whatever you like.

Note: The zipped file must be in /etc/openvpn Directory

# cp ZIPPED-FILE-NAME /etc/openvpn/.

# cd /etc/openvpn/

# unzip ZIPPED-FILE-NAME  (unzinpping the file).

# chmod -R 600 /etc/openvpn/Unzipped-foldername

Now for debian Users after unzipping the file and placing the Directory in /etc/openvpn

$ sudo /etc/init.d/openvpn start unzipped-folder-name

For RPM based.

# service openvpn start unzipped-folder-name


You also need to provide username and password for connecting.

Other Distros:

use the same Procedure mentioned above. and use your appropriate command to start the open vpn service with the directory name you unzipped and placed in /etc/openvpn
